Just stumbled across the work of Garbriele Galimberti, a commercial photographer from Italy, who also shoots documentary/travel photography... the dream, right? One of the projects on his website is called "Toy Stories," and it features dozens of children with their favorite toys all over the world. His work really inspired me to continue to be a documentary artist in the midst of everything else. Which child were you most like? I could really relate to Allenah from the Philippines (photo below) who had shelves and shelves of stuffed animals. I also loved baby dolls and can still remember their names and how they smelled and felt in my hands. Flora. Micheal (he was a water baby, do you remember those??). Happy (yep, one of my babies was named Happy, don't judge), Babybones (ok, the names are starting to get weirder and weirder, so I'll just stop). One of the best part about Galimberti's work is that he goes into great detail describing his projects, and sometimes, each individual image. About the "Toy Stories" project, he says: "Everyone remembers their childhood toys. The fact that I can recall how most of mine tasted better than I can remember the names of my primary school teachers says everything you need to know about the universe kids inhabit." What an interesting project! Click on the photo to see more Toy Stories kids and their toys.
